Who We Are

Chicago Lumber Company has been earning its reputation since 1876, and today we’re 100% employee-owned. The people who do the work own the company.

Through The Window & Door Store, we’re the regional home for Marvin Windows and Doors and Therma-Tru Doors. Our service technicians help deliver on that promise. When a customer has a problem, we show up and make it right.

We treat our customers—and each other—with the care, accountability, and pride that come with ownership.

The Role

We’re looking for a Service Technician who takes pride in fixing things right the first time. You’ll divide your time roughly equally between solving problems for existing window and door customers and working alongside our sales team on new-construction builds.

On new builds, you’ll help ensure contractors and homeowners receive the finished result they expect, right down to the final door slab, screen, and adjustment.

If you enjoy variety, independent work, and turning a frustrated customer into a loyal one, we’d like to meet you. This is an opportunity to build a lasting career.

What You’ll Do

  • Diagnose and solve: Identify what’s wrong with a window or door in the field and determine the exact parts and adjustments needed. We provide training to help you get the repair right the first time.
  • Make it work: Perform mechanical adjustments so products operate and seal as intended.
  • Build it right: Install replacement door slabs, screens, and hardware on new-construction jobsites, with close attention to fit and finish.
  • Support the customer: Communicate professionally, stay calm during challenging visits, and coordinate with your manager and sales team. Pricing, warranty, and goodwill decisions are handled by those teams.
  • Communicate early: Let your Service Manager know when a job is running long so schedules can be adjusted. Recognize when to solve an issue independently and when to ask for support.
  • Manage your van: Keep common replacement parts stocked and service call notes current.
  • Keep learning: Adopt new service software and tools as they are introduced.

What You’ll Bring

Strongly Preferred

  • A trades or installation background, such as carpentry, remodeling, installation, glazing, or similar experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude, willingness to learn, and pride in doing the work correctly.

Helpful, but Not Required

  • Previous window or door service experience with Marvin, Therma-Tru, Andersen, or similar products.

Required

  • A valid driver’s license with a clean, insurable driving record and completion of the company’s insurance approval process.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Composure under pressure and sound judgment about when to involve your manager.
  • Comfort using a phone or tablet and willingness to learn new applications.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Lift and maneuver windows and doors weighing up to 75 pounds or more, including large, awkward units, both independently and with a team.
  • Work on ladders and extension ladders at height.
  • Work on active, unfinished jobsites with uneven ground, dust, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work through Nebraska’s cold winters and hot summers.
  • Stand for extended periods, kneel, reach overhead, and work in tight spaces.

Schedule and Territory

The regular schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Most days finish on time. Occasionally, a service call runs longer and you may return around 6:00 p.m.

You’ll serve Omaha and the surrounding region and will typically be home each night. Rare assignments may require a one- or two-day trip with an overnight stay.

From your first day, Chicago Lumber provides a service van, specialty tools, ladders, personal protective equipment, and a phone or tablet.
